When you are trying to organized, the very best thing you can do is cut down on the amount of stuff you have that you don't use or love. The less you have, the less you need to organize, the happier you will be. Of course, that is way easier said than done. Everbody has excuses for why they hold onto stuff, and although those reasons are sometimes legitimate, usually they are just plain silly.
Today's plaintive wail: "But I paid so much for it!" (Just substitute the name of your item in place of "it.")
I'm sure it was very expensive and you don't want to "waste money" by getting rid of it, but how is getting rid of it going to waste money? By letting it go to someone else who could get some use out of it you would be getting more from the money you spent, and you might even be able to make a buck or two. If you keep it, you will just add to your already enormous pile of "stuff," and that "stuff" is probably causing you to consider either renting storage space or moving to a bigger space, both of which would be a bigger waste of money.
Even if you are thinking of just keeping the thing in the space you have, it is still taking up room and leaving less space for you and the things that are more important to you. Is the amount of money you spent so long ago really worth that unsettling crowded feeling you get when you have too much stuff around?
Even if you spent a million dollars on it, it is still going to waste just languishing under that layer of dust. It's painful to know that you spent your hard-earned money on it, but take it as a lesson learned and you will save yourself some money in the future by not making a similar purchase.
